In the eyes of many Americans, there is little separation between the image of “Vietnam” and the tragic outcome of US involvement in the Vietnam War. However, Vietnam as a nation and the Vietnamese as a people have existed in the region for over two thousand years. In this talk I will introduce various aspects of Modern Vietnamese society and culture with a focus on preserving traditions during the country’s emergence from its war-torn past.
