In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Peace Officers Memorial Day honors federal, state, and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.
On May 6, 2019, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners adopted a Resolution Designating the Week of May 12 - May 18, 2019, as “POLICE WEEK'' in Randolph County.
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office will be recognizing Peace Officers Memorial Day by hosting a “Blessing of the Badges” on May 15, 2019. Everyone is welcome to attend as we pray for and honor every law enforcement officer in Randolph County for their dedication in protecting and serving our community. The brief service will be held on the Sheriff’s Office lawn at noon. (Rain locations: Randolph County Office Building Meeting Room A) The Smokehouse Bistro food truck will be available for attendees to purchase lunch.
